Still from Headquarters by Sam Ballardini

For the past three years, Daniel Savage has curated Yule Log, a playful reimagining of the traditional Christmas log burnt specially for the holiday. With this project, Savage has brought the old custom into modern age, showcasing very short, soundless animations from artists all over the world. They all revolve around a burning log, but add elements of subversion to each piece—they lack an overly sentimental feeling of Christmas and instead are inspired themes of witchcraft, war, barbecue, and more.
